With the highly anticipated Google Maps for iOS now among us, Google SVP of Commerce Jeff Huber shared some interesting download numbers this afternoon. In just 48 hours, Huber said that a whopping 10 million users downloaded the Apple Maps alternative from the iTunes App Store. Also, as the app climbs up the charts to the top free app, the number of downloads is likely rising quick. Google Maps for iOS was well received, garnering positive reviews and ratings, with even Google admitting that its iPhone version of Maps is better than its Android version....

According to a new report on The Information, Google is developing an operating system for low-power IoT devices. These low power devices are powered by as little as 32MB RAM. Codenamed “Brillo,” the operating system is likely to be put under Android brand name as it is being “linked to company’s Android unit.” Perhaps, it is a lighter variant of Android. Apple launched its latest mobile OS on Wednesday and app developers are in the process of supporting the latest features. Google has two iOS 14 updates ready with a Search widget and Chrome browser default, while it’s readying a third. iOS 14 lets applications create home screen widgets that are much more prominent than before. The main Google app now offers “lightning-fast access to Search” to “find information even faster.” The first iOS 14 widget is 2×2 with “Search Google” in the bottom-left corner and a narrow bar up top that opens your keyboard to allow for immediate text input....

Google Earth on iOS has been updated with one of the most requested features: a measurement tool. Announced in a blog post, Google shared that after previously coming to Chrome and Android, it has brought the popular feature to iOS. Apple published a support page that shows how much it will cost to replace an AirPods Pro or the charging case should you lose it or your dog decides it looks like a chew toy. Without AppleCare+, replacing an AirPods Pro will set you back $89 per earbud. If you need to replace the charging case, that’ll cost you $89 as well.
