Google CEO Larry Page has been quiet since he stepped out of the spotlight last summer due to an unspecified voice problem, but in recent months, like in today’s Fortune, he is beginning to speak up again. He sat down recently and gave his second, as Fortune coined it, “wide-ranging conversation with a print publication since becoming CEO of Google in April 2011.” One of the more interesting excerpts concerned Apple, of course, as Page specifically noted “it would be nice if everybody would get along better....

In a blog post announcing their launch of an embeddable web and native app VR viewer, Google also introduced the official launch of their Cardboard SDK for iOS. The SDK allows iOS developers to embed virtual reality content within their own apps to then be viewed using a viewer like Google’s own Cardboard. This official Cardboard SDK launch on iOS helps to re-affirm Google’s drive to bring VR to all platforms....

God Eater 3 is relatively easy to get started with, but there are still some tips people should know before playing. Before the missions get anywhere close to difficult, players are guided through several tutorial levels. There, they’ll learn about basic attacks, Burst mode, and linking with allies for a well-timed stat boost. However, God Eater 3 does make the assumption that the player is decently-versed in action RPGs, so those players who are new to the genre might find themselves lost....

Similar to Chrome, an update to the Google app for iOS today adds a new incognito mode that prevents search or browsing history from being saved. Other features include native playback of YouTube videos, improved iOS 10 compatibility, and performance improvements that reduce crash rates by 50%. The new incognito mode can be accessed by going into Settings and tapping “Turn on incognito” or by hard pressing with 3D Touch on the app’s icon from the homescreen....

The annual Game Developers Conference recently held its eighth “State of the Industry” survey, and the results show a greatly increased interest in VR among game developers. The conference itself is coming up in mid-March, and this is some of the important preliminary information that the organizers collect beforehand. For the past eight years, the GDC State of the Industry survey has acted as a snapshot of the video game industry, illustrating its trends and changes according to developers....

Last month, a report explained that Citigroup pulled out of its potential deal with Apple for the new Apple Card over profitability concerns. Apple ultimately partnered with Goldman Sachs for the card, and now a Goldman exec is defending the partnership despite profitability concerns. Speaking at the Business Insider Ignition Finance event today, Goldman’s head of consumer digital finance in its Marcus division, Omer Ismail, said the company isn’t worried Apple Card’s profitability....

Google today announced their Online presentation application. It isn’t going to win any awards for beauty (baaad templates!) and it is next to useless in the Safari Browser – much better in Firefox – but it is a huge step in the right direction. The chat and collaborative features in Google Docs and Spreadsheets are there which opens the possibility of online presentation building and “presenting.” However, it has obvious downsides as well....

Google’s latest photography app — following behind others such as Google Photos and Snapseed — stabilizes iOS Live Photos and turns them into shareable GIFs and short movie clips. The app can create still images by freezing the background of a Live Photo and makes short videos that feature sweeping cinematic pans. The free Motion Stills app comes to us from Google Research and is only available on iOS… Using algorithms, the app creates a virtual camera path that is optimized to recast videos and bursts as if they were filmed using stabilization equipment....

The highly popular computer and mobile device benchmarking software, Geekbench, is out with a new version today that brings Dark Mode for the macOS app, new CPU tests that leverage machine learning, augmented reality, and computational photography, new multi-threaded modes, and more. Developer Primate Labs announced Geekbench 5 in a blog post today detailing that the major release for macOS, iOS, and more “allows you to measure your system’s power more accurately than ever before....

GM’s autonomous driving division, Cruise Automation, announced the launch of the beta version of its autonomous ride-sharing app currently being used by employees in San Francisco, where they operate a fleet of autonomous Chevy Bolt EV test vehicles. The new service is called ‘Cruise Anywhere’ and the company claims that it is already becoming the primary mode of transport for some of its employees. Cruise CEO and co-founder Kyle Vogt said in an interview with Techcrunch:...

Google hasn’t updated the vast majority of its iOS services since December. Those apps are now throwing up “This app is out of date” messages when attempting a Google sign-in. Update: About an hour after this issue came to light, Google removed the warning. All sign-in attempts immediately proceed to the password entry field. This warning (spotted by Spencer Dailey) appears after you enter your email address in apps that have not seen an update since mid-December....

The Goblin Statue that you encounter within the very beginning of the game will leave you puzzled. When you first see this statue, you will sense something odd with it. You might try to interact with it but for some reason, you’re not able to interact. It’s too early for you to assume there’s nothing you can do with the Goblin statue. What did Google do, exactly? Well, according to Bloomberg BusinessWeek, quoting a person familiar with the matter, Google used cookies that went over Safari’s tracking blocker preferences in order to track users between sites and deliver them targeted advertising. Google (of course) denied any wrongdoing in a statement, saying that the FTC’s focus was on a 2009 help center page, which has been changed since. It’s also said that it had taken measures to remove the ad cookies, and that the cookies didn’t collect personal information....

Through a series of feature additions that will happen throughout 2022, Google will bring seamless pairing, device switching, setup, and even better integration with a Windows PC to Android and Chrome OS. As is often the case with Google and Android features, the timeline for release isn’t exact. The editor in chief of Germany’s biggest newspaper, Süddeutsche Zeitung, has written an open letter to Apple CEO Tim Cook in which he claims that Apple pays ‘between 1 and 7 percent’ tax on its overseas income. Wolfgang Krach says the numbers were reached by its analysis of the so-called paradise papers, a massive leak of financial records relating to offshore holdings in countries commonly used as tax havens. He attacks Apple for ‘shirking’ its tax obligations and for failing to answer questions put by the paper …...

If you prefer Google Assistant to Siri, the latest version of the app is available for iPad as well as iPhone … You’ve always been able to run the iPhone version on iPad, of course, but that’s never a great experience. Much of the app’s functionality simply mirrors that available from Siri, but if you’re an iPad owner who leans more toward the Google ecosystem, Google Assistant gives you voice access to Gmail and Google Calendar....
