From 9to5Google: According to the Wall Street Journal, Google-Motorola is working on a new smartphone that is internally known as ‘X Phone’. It is aimed at Apple and Samsung’s latest flagship devices. Details seem to be slim, but here are some of the key points: X-Phone, and an eventual X-Tablet, are separate from Motorola’s long-existing Droid line. Some early plans for the device were scrapped over supply chain and manufacturing concerns....

The new app even allows you to publish 360º images you capture to Google Maps for others to see as well. Google notes that the app requires iPhone 4S or higher for capturing images....

As promised on Friday, iOS 14 users can now set Gmail as the default mail app on iPhones and iPads. This follows a handful of updates from Google to support the latest version of Apple’s mobile operating system. Version 6.0.200825 of Gmail for iOS is rolling out now via the App Store. There is an in-app prompt to set the app as the default iOS mail client, or users can manually visit Settings > Gmail....

AT&T’s CEO Randall Stephenson told investors yesterday that with smartphone penetration approaching 90 percent, the existing business model – where carriers sell highly-subsidized smartphones to drive demand – will have to change. Many U.S. iPhone buyers don’t realise the true cost of their handsets, as carrier subsidies mean they typically pay no more than $200. Google Chairman Eric Schmidt is making his way around Asia, and he expanded on remarks made yesterday in Tokyo at the Korean launch of the Nexus 7 today. Google has just released a HTML 5 optimized Music Beta player for iOS 4, announced via Twitter. Upon first launching the webpage, Google asks for the allowance of 25mb to be stored on your device. After, you are presented with a full run down of all of the artists you uploaded to the service. Once you have selected a preferred song, you are taken to a “Now Playing” page. Yes, if you haven’t realized already it works a lot like the music....

Finally taking advantage of a rather useful technology in iOS 7, Google has released version 3.0 of its Gmail for iOS app with full support for background refresh allowing messages to download within the app as the push notification arrives. Previously, users would receive the banner and badge that a new message had arrived, but unless the app had been opened very recently, the content would not download until the message was explicitly opened by the user....

On the heels of iOS 13 being released to the public, Google Maps and Waze for iOS have both been updated with Siri integration. This means you can now ask Siri to get you directions to a certain place using Google Maps or Waze on iPhone and CarPlay. Apple first demonstrated this feature back at WWDC, using Waze as the example. With updates today, however, both Waze and Google Maps can now be accessed via Siri on iPhone and CarPlay....
